I had so much fun with Dana and Jameson at their North Catamount Reservoir engagement session! This engagement session was my first time traveling to the Pikes Peak area for a session, but it definitely won’t be my last!
Although most of my Colorado couples live in the Denver/Boulder area, a few reside in the Colorado Springs area. Dana and Jameson wanted to visit someplace more characteristic of the Springs. Jameson actually picked out North Catamount Reservoir for their engagement session (with my photographer’s approval of course!). This was actually the original location he planned on proposing to Dana at.
North Catamount Reservoir was an absolute dream to explore as a photographer. For engagement sessions, one of the biggest deciding factors on picking a location is how heavily trafficked the area is. For example, Rocky Mountain National Park is such a popular area for both hikers and photographers alike, so I normally dissuade couples from photographing here unless we visit at an 0ff-peak time. North Catamount Reservoir was by comparison completely quite, with just a few fishermen enjoying a Saturday morning at the lake.
Another factor that influences the engagement session location is the variety of scenes at the location. At the reservoir, we had several areas to take photos at – the rocks by the reservoir, on the grassy trail behind the reservoir, and the shoreline of the reservoir. The more scenes at a location, the more variety there is in the final engagement session gallery!
Because of the lack of people and the bountiful areas to shoot, North Catamount Reservoir is now a new favorite spot of mine (so future wedding couples, think about doing your engagement photos here!).
Besides the location being gorgeous, I had so much fun getting to know Dana and Jameson better. As the shoot progressed, they loosened up and their antics kept getting goofier and goofier…which is what I love! As a photographer, my job is to create an environment where you and your significant other can feel safe to be who you are when no one else is around. Jameson kept commenting, “We are never this physically affectionate around other people!” Well, that is job! My job is to make you feel comfortable to showcase your love for each other, and to document those moments with beautiful photographs.
Dana and Jameson, I had so much fun during your engagement session, and I cannot wait for your wedding next year!
